Russia's Secret Chemical Warfare Exposed in Ukraine! Find Out Who's Getting Sanctioned!"
During its invasion of Ukraine, Russia faced sanctions from the Treasury Department due to alleged involvement in chemical and biological warfare programs.
The State Department disclosed that over 280 individuals and entities were sanctioned for Russia's "foreign aggression and internal repression." Among those sanctioned were three Russian government agencies and four Russian businesses implicated in chemical weapons accusations.
Accused of violating the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), Russia is under scrutiny for its alleged use of chloropicrin, a chemical weapon banned under international treaties. Additionally, accusations of employing CS and CN gases in Ukraine further escalated tensions.
The State Department's release highlighted Russia's use of chloropicrin against Ukrainian forces, labeling it a breach of the CWC. This act, along with the alleged use of riot control agents, signifies Russia's strategic approach in the conflict.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense by Newsweek remained unanswered.
Drawing parallels, the State Department likened Russia's actions in Ukraine to the poisonings of Alexei Navalny and Sergei Skripal, incidents involving Novichok, a nerve agent. Despite denials, international consensus points to Russian President Vladimir Putin's involvement, resulting in sanctions by several nations.
