 Political leaders in North Yorkshire and York are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the region’s inaugural mayoral election, as the vote count commences this morning (Friday).


The declaration of results, expected later in the day at Harrogate Convention Centre, is shrouded in uncertainty. Labour's David Skaith is currently favored to win according to bookmakers, with Ladbrokes and William Hill both tipping the odds in his favor. Conservative candidate Keane Duncan follows closely behind, while Independent candidates Paul Haslam and Keith Tordoff remain wildcard contenders.


With voting concluded across 668 polling stations in York and North Yorkshire yesterday, local politicians are bracing for potential shifts in this traditionally Conservative stronghold.


Despite differing predictions, Labour Party figures cautiously anticipate a competitive showing, buoyed by hopes of a higher voter turnout driven by favorable weather conditions.


Conversely, senior Tories acknowledge the tight race privately, recognizing the need for significant support shifts given recent election trends in the region.


In both North Yorkshire and York, previous election results have shown shifts in support away from the Conservative Party, signaling a potential challenge to their dominance in the area.

Anupam Kher remembers last conversation with Satish Kaushik three hours before his death: ‘Go to the hospital, get yourself admitted

  A ctor Anupam Kher shared a strong friendship with late Bollywood actor-director Satish Kaushik, who passed away last year, following a heart attack. Recently, Kher revisited his first meeting with Kaushik at drama school in 1975. The Saaransh star also recalled the last conversation that he had with his friend of 48 years, just three hours before  his death. Kher recalled that he was on a phone call with Kaushik just three before before he succumbed to a heart attack. During their conversation, Kaushik had mentioned that he was feeling unwell, and Kher had told him to get admitted to a hospital. "I told him, 'Go to the hospital, get yourself admitted. Go as if you are going to a resort'," Kher shared with Bollywood Hungama. Kaushik insisted on going in the morning, but Kher didn't give up. He told his friend, "You go now. Lie down and rest there.
