Several procedures have been canceled or redirected to other NHS providers following a cyber attack on major hospitals in the capital.

King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas', the Royal Brompton, the Evelina London Children's Hospital, and primary care services were impacted by a significant IT incident involving their pathology partner Synnovis, according to letters sent to NHS staff.

The incident has greatly affected service delivery, particularly impacting blood transfusions.

Some procedures and operations have been canceled or redirected to other NHS providers as hospital administrators determine what work can be carried out safely.

One patient, Oliver Dowson, 70, was prepared for an operation from 6 am on Monday at Royal Brompton but was informed by a surgeon around 12:30 pm that it would not proceed.

"The ward staff didn't seem to know what had happened, just that many patients were being told to go home and wait for a new date," Dowson told the PA news agency.

"I've been given a date for next Tuesday and am hoping it goes ahead. This isn't the first time they've canceled— it happened on May 28 too, likely due to staff shortages during half-term week," he added.
