Voting commenced in Russia on Friday for a three-day presidential election, widely expected to secure President Vladimir Putin's continued leadership for another six years amid a crackdown on dissent. Against a backdrop of restrictions on independent media and human rights organizations, Putin maintains a firm grip on the political landscape. The election occurs amidst Russia's ongoing conflict in Ukraine, now in its third year.
