Two individuals of Indo-Canadian descent are among five South Asians apprehended for Canada's most significant gold heist at Toronto airport.
On April 17, 2023, the largest gold heist at Canada's primary airport occurred, with 6,600 gold bars valued at over $20 million CAD and foreign currency totaling approximately $2.5 million CAD stolen from an Air Canada storage facility at Pearson International Airport.
During a press conference held on Tuesday at Toronto airport, authorities disclosed that Parmpal Sidhu, 54, from Brampton, an Air Canada employee, was among those arrested.
Another individual of Indo-Canadian origin taken into custody is Amit Jalota, 40, residing in Oakville near Toronto.
