Mahavir Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, also known as Vardhamana, born in 615 BC into a royal family. Renouncing his princely status at 30, he embarked on a spiritual journey, practicing austerities and meditating for 12 years to attain 'Kevala Jnana' and propagate Jainism.


Jain communities globally celebrate Mahavir Jayanti with fervor, honoring Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, for spreading peace and harmony. Rituals include temple prayers, processions, hymn singing, fasting, charity, cultural events, and religious lectures.


The festival underscores Jainism's significance, particularly its teaching of 'ahinsa parmo dharma' (non-violence), resonating strongly in today's world.

Anupam Kher remembers last conversation with Satish Kaushik three hours before his death: ‘Go to the hospital, get yourself admitted

  A ctor Anupam Kher shared a strong friendship with late Bollywood actor-director Satish Kaushik, who passed away last year, following a heart attack. Recently, Kher revisited his first meeting with Kaushik at drama school in 1975. The Saaransh star also recalled the last conversation that he had with his friend of 48 years, just three hours before  his death. Kher recalled that he was on a phone call with Kaushik just three before before he succumbed to a heart attack. During their conversation, Kaushik had mentioned that he was feeling unwell, and Kher had told him to get admitted to a hospital. "I told him, 'Go to the hospital, get yourself admitted. Go as if you are going to a resort'," Kher shared with Bollywood Hungama. Kaushik insisted on going in the morning, but Kher didn't give up. He told his friend, "You go now. Lie down and rest there.
