Beloved English actor Bernard Hill, renowned for his remarkable performances in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy and 'Titanic,' has passed away at 79.

Barbara Dickson shared this somber news on X (formerly Twitter), reminiscing about their collaboration in the 1974-1975 production "John Paul George Ringo and Bert" by Willy Russell, praising Hill's remarkable talent and expressing her privilege to have known him.

The news of Hill's demise triggered an avalanche of tributes from admirers, recognizing his versatility in portraying both historical figures and intricate characters like Yosser Hughes in the groundbreaking British miniseries 'Boys from the Blackstuff.'

Hill's portrayal of King Theoden in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide, as did his portrayal of the ill-fated Captain Edward Smith in James Cameron's award-winning film 'Titanic.'

Spanning over five decades, Hill's illustrious career encompassed a wide spectrum of stage, television, and film roles. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the only actor to feature in two films that each clinched a record-breaking eleven Academy Awards: 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' and 'Titanic.'
