"Race Stewards Drop Bombshell Verdict on Carlos Sainz After Controversial Qualifying Incident!"

Following a post-qualifying meeting with race stewards, Carlos Sainz received a verdict regarding an alleged incident of impeding Williams' Alex Albon. The stewards decided not to take further action against Sainz, who was accused of impeding Albon through Turns 15/16 during Albon's flying lap in Q1.

In an FIA statement, the stewards explained: "The stewards heard from the driver of Car 55 (Carlos Sainz), the driver of Car 23 (Alexander Albon), team representatives, and reviewed video, team radio, and in-car video evidence. They determined that Car 23 was on a push lap and caught Car 55 at the chicane at Turns 15/16. The driver of Car 55 was informed by the team of the approach of Car 23 and attempted to move off the racing line as quickly as possible to give Car 23 space at the exit of Turn 16. However, due to the tight nature of the chicane and the Monaco circuit, Car 23 was affected by Car 55’s presence."

Sainz mentioned that, in hindsight, he might have been able to go off track to give Albon more room but felt that he did not unnecessarily impede Albon as he took the necessary steps to provide space. Albon was able to complete his push lap and, while he believed he lost about a tenth and a half of a second, he described the situation as "grey" regarding whether Sainz had unnecessarily impeded him. He acknowledged that this part of the circuit is particularly difficult, being a sequence of blind corners, and that Sainz could not have seen him approaching any sooner.
