"UK's First Vertical Rocket Launch: Shetland Spaceport Makes History! 🚀 Find Out How!"

The SaxaVord Spaceport, located in Shetland, is set to achieve a significant milestone by launching the UK’s inaugural vertical rocket into orbit.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a 'range licence' to the Scottish spaceport, granting the company authority over the sea and airspace during launch operations. This license ensures a safe trajectory for rockets ascending into space and guarantees ground safety.

This achievement marks a crucial step in securing the necessary permissions for orbital launches from Unst, one of the Shetland islands.

SaxaVord made history as Scotland's first licensed vertical spaceport when it obtained its spaceport licence in December 2023. The company's objective is to conduct up to 30 rocket launches annually.

The range licence delineates SaxaVord's responsibilities in safeguarding maritime zones around Shetland during launches and maintaining clear airspace as rockets ascend over the North Pole into orbit.

Given the high volume of transatlantic flights traversing the northern skies of Scotland, no-fly zones will be established during launch windows to ensure safety.

Moreover, the range licence emphasizes the importance of notifying ground personnel about launch timings to mitigate any potential risks.

Frank Strang, CEO of SaxaVord Spaceport, expressed delight at securing the range licence, highlighting its significance in the lead-up to launch operations. As Western Europe's sole fully licensed vertical launch spaceport, SaxaVord is poised to make further strides in space exploration with orbital launch preparations well underway.
